On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’m delighted to share some great news!
When I announced my retirement, I explained that my departure would not be the end of Waste Not because our mission is more important than me, because our volunteers would continue our work, and because someone passionate about our mission would take my place. To be honest, at the time, I was a little worried about whether the board would be able to find that someone. But they got right to work, conducted an extensive and lengthy search, received more than 30 applications, and held multiple rounds of interviews. The board was determined to find the very best person to lead Waste Not in the future.
And, wow, did they ever! Dr. Kathleen Spears, who earned both a Master of Healthcare Administration and PhD in Community Health from Texas Woman’s University, has many years of experience in both the for-profit and not-for-profit arenas. She loves our mission AND she loves a challenge. Kathleen is very excited and highly qualified to take the helm at Waste Not as we look forward to our 35th anniversary and the next stage of our history.
Kathleen will become Waste Not’s Executive Director on Tuesday September 3, 2024. I will remain at Waste Not to assist with the transition until December. Kathleen and I have already spent time together and I am confident that Waste Not will be in great hands! Please give Kathleen a warm welcome!
